Elmer the Elephant

This week is Elmer the Elephant day. The children have been busy getting creative designing their own patterns for their Elmer Elephant. They enjoyed listening to the Elmer story, the book was gifted to us by a previous Sunshine child way back in 2001, and is still being loved all these years later. They also listened to an Elmer story on the big tablet, and joined in an elephant dance, especially enjoying the bit when they had too “stamp, stamp, stamp, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle”. They have also created Elmer designs on different media using felt pens on card and foil to develop their mark making skills, and made bracelets and necklaces using coloured pasta to develop hand/eye co-ordination and colour recognition.

These activities have developed listening skills, turn taking, language and vocabulary, physical skills, creativity, mark making, counting and so much more, all at the same time as having lots of fun.
