“A person’s a person, no matter how small.” We love having sensory fun with the water, sharing resources, developing communication & language, exploring capacity, and expanding our knowledge of the world. We have been learning new skills such as sewing. This requires lots of concentration, and good hand/eye co-ordination. The children love small world play. This encourages language development, using their imagination and sharing resources. The children love outdoor water play. Filling and emptying containers to develop an understanding of capacity, washing toys and equipment, or watering the plants. We have a huge variety of puzzles. These help children to extend their concentration, develop an understanding of shape, and improve their manipulation skills. This pirate ship made by one of our staff members, ensured the children had loads of imaginative pirate role play fun. A plank and tyres were added to create a Walk the Plank (great for balance practice). This little girls is mark making using her whole arm to make large circle shapes. She is developing her pen control and strengthening her hands and fingers , as part of her development in early writing skills. We love reading stories at Sunshine, and the children love to sit and listen to them. They develop their listening and attention skills, early reading skills, and language and communication through storytime. Exploring what happens with the water when you pour it into the top of the water wall, is great fun. It also helps improve hand/eye co-ordination, and strengthens upper body as they reach and stretch. We love cooking and regularly use different skills to create some tasty treats. Here the children are rubbing in the ingredients to make rock cakes. The children are exploring different fruits, learning the names, tasting new flavours and using tools such as the knife to chop up the fruit. Playdough is great for stengthening fingers and hands ready for writing. It also gives lots of opportunity for the children to use their imagination to make cakes, monsters, snakes etc. They use lots of different tools such as cutters, knives, rolling pins etc to achieve their desired creation. Painting provides lots of opportunity for being creative and exploring colour, what happens when different colours are mixed together etc. We use lots of different tools with the paints such as brushes, rollers, salad spinners, mini mops, potato mashers, sticks, car tyres etc We have access to a huge playing field alongside our hall. This means the children can explore their environment looking for bugs/flowers, play games, or go for walks. This little girl is showing her great scissor work. She has mastered cutting in straight lines and around different shapes. We have lots of different scissors (right handed, left handed, trainer scissors, pattern scissors etc) The children love the tap tap's, using the shapes to get creative and make patterns or pictures. They are able to demonstrate good hand/eye co-ordination by hitting the metal pins into the shapes using a hammer. This activity gives lots of opporunity to discuss shapes, number and size. We have a large interactive nursery tablet. This can be tilted and used as a interactive table. Up to 4 children at a time can use some of the programmes. We have lot of different construction resources. Construction is great for developing manipulation to strengthen hands/fingers, using imagination, looking at shapes/patterns/size, and extending concentration. We have a lovely secure ourdoor area with large wooden equipment to challenge physical development, and encourage imaginative play.
