Love is in the Air

The children have enjoyed Valentines week at Sunshine.

They have painted their heart shaped coasters choosing which colours they wanted to use, and then decorated with star stickers.

They have developed their cutting skills as they made their Valentines Card.

The red and pink rice was a very popular sensory activity, as the children explored capacity, filling and emptying containers, developed hand/eye co-ordination as they used tools to pick up and move the rice, and enjoyed the sensory feel and sound of the rice.

They also made heart shaped shortbread biscuits, talking about the ingredients, mixing them together and then rolling out the dough. They used different tools to mix, roll and cut the dough.

They explored the frozen hearts, noticing how cold and wet they were. They used hammers to try and break up the ice and release the flowers.

The playdough was, as always very popular with the children. They had lots of different size heart cutters and were able to size sort them. The dough helps to strengthen the childrens fingers and hands which is very important for early mark making, as it helps them to grip pens, pencils, chalks and brushes.
